8th ANNUAL EAST-WEST SCHOLARSHIP DINNER SET FOR NOVEMBER 5

CHICAGO–  (Oct. 28, 2011)   East-West University’s Eighth Annual Scholarship Dinner will be held Sat., Nov. 5, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Club on the 66th Floor of the Willis Tower.  The University will honor UIC Professor of Art History, Architecture and Urban Planning Robert Bruegmann with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence, and recognize Sequoia Hayes as East-West Alumni of the Year.  The event is East-West University’s largest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going to need and merit-based scholarships for East-West students.

Professor Bruegmann received his BA from Principia College and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1977 he joined the University of Illinois at Chicago, where his fields of research and teaching are architectural, urban, landscape, and planning history and historic preservation. He has received scholarships and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Graham Foundation, the Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University and the Institute for the Humanities and the Great Cities Institute at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Bruegmann has also taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia College of the Arts, MIT and Columbia University. He has also worked for the Historic American Buildings Survey and Historic American Engineering Record of the National Park Service.

Ms. Sequoya Hayes graduated from East-West University in 2007 with a BA in Behavioral and Social Sciences, and attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where she earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work in the Fall of 2008. During her graduate study, she volunteered with domestic violence victims in Capetown, South Africa, and resolved to work towards education and empowerment of underserved populations, particularly women and girls. In addition to her professional practice in social work, she is currently an Adjunct Professor at East-West University in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Department.
